FIFA Fan Fest at the heart of the Aztec Empire

The 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa is finally here, and the Mexican national team had to face one of its biggest challenge, playing the inaugural game with the host team. The whole country woke up to tune in and follow the TRI’s first big match on African soil. The lucky fans that managed to travel to Johannesburg and see the game from the stands of the Soccer City Stadium is the envy of millions here, but that didn’t stop, at least for 50 thousands Mexico City’s residents to experienced a World Cup “fiesta” at the very heart of the Aztec city, where the International FIFA Fan Fest is underway.

L’affaire Cassez, the farce that deceived a country

The “key testimony” given by the alleged kidnapper David Orozco, on the kidnapping case against the Frenchwoman, Florence Cassez in May of 2009 and which the Mexican authorities assured that with this testimony proves the guiltiness of the French citizen in the kidnapping of a mother and son and a young man. One year later is revealed that Orozco’s testimony was made after being threatened and tortured by agents of the Federal Police, formaly the Federal Agency of Investigation (AFI).

Mexico is no place for gays to be gay

Although Mexico City is the only place in Mexico where it’s recognize gay rights and allows same- sex marriage, is still far to become a “pink paradise”. In a country where most of its population is catholic, and conservatives groups won’t allow anyone to corrupt Catholic values, even if its a government disposition.

Calderon's bluffs on immigration and the war on drugs

On Wednesday President Felipe Calderon met with President Barack Obama at the White House. The top issues that both presidents discussed were obviously the war on drugs and immigration, the latter got to the agenda, if it wasn’t for the anti-immigration law SB1070 that was approved last month in Arizona, causing outrage in all sectors of the Mexican society, otherwise this state visit was going to focus only on the war on drugs and border security.

Mexican cinema at the Cannes Film Festival

The 63rd Cannes Film Festival is underway and here in Mexico, specially the press, is following more closely then ever the outcome of this world renown annual film festival. It seems that this year the Mexican film industry will shine in the French Riviera and is not a big surprise that the local press has high hopes that the Mexican films and film-makers can succeed.
